Binance Futures API Setup: Enable Futures, IP Whitelist, Hedge Mode and Multi-Assets Mode

How to set up a Binance USDⓈ-M futures API for automated trading: tick Enable Futures only (never withdrawals), restrict access to the platform server IP, turn on hedge mode, turn off multi-assets mode and use single-asset USDT margin, plus how to troubleshoot failed verification.

Binance needs two steps more than OKX: the API key must be restricted to the platform server IP, and USDⓈ-M futures must use hedge mode with multi-assets mode turned off. Tick only Enable Futures, never Enable Withdrawals.

Before you start: futures account and funds

Open a USDⓈ-M futures account on Binance and transfer the USDT for the strategy from spot to USDⓈ-M futures. A dedicated Binance sub-account is recommended: the platform only manages positions it opened and refuses accounts that already hold other positions.

Binance and OKX each monitor the coins listed on their own exchange, and the same strategy settings run independently on each. Only the currently bound account places orders at any time.

Step 1: create the API key and set permissions

In Binance API Management, create a system-generated API key, label it, and complete security verification. The API key and secret key are then displayed; the secret is shown only once, so save it immediately.

Click Edit restrictions and tick only Enable Futures. Do not tick Enable Withdrawals. Without withdrawal permission, the platform cannot move your funds.

Step 2: IP access restriction

On the same page, set IP access restriction to trusted IPs only, enter the platform server IP and save. The exact IP is shown in the Binance binding steps on the platform's Account page and on the FAQ page.

Binance may remove trading permission from keys without an IP restriction, which would suddenly stop all orders, so don't skip this step.

Step 3: hedge mode and single-asset margin

Open Preferences on the USDⓈ-M futures trading page: set position mode to hedge mode, turn off multi-assets mode, and use single-asset USDT margin. Switching may be blocked while you hold positions or open orders, so clear them first.

The system manages long and short positions and stops separately, and never changes account settings for you; if something is wrong, binding verification tells you what to fix.

Step 4: bind and check funding

On the Account page, choose Binance and enter the API key and secret. The platform verifies them with Binance first, then stores them encrypted and never returns them in plain text.

Then open the funding check on the Strategy page, apply the suggested values if funds are short, and make sure the strategy is on and set to auto-execute.

Troubleshooting failed verification

Binance credential verification failed: check that the key and secret were copied in full, Enable Futures is ticked, and the platform server IP is in the IP restriction.

Hedge mode required or multi-assets mode must be off: go back to step 3 and verify again. Unknown positions in the account: close existing positions or use a clean sub-account.

Does the Binance API key really need an IP whitelist?
Yes. Choose trusted IPs only and enter the platform server IP shown in the Binance binding steps on the Account page. Binance may remove trading permission from unrestricted keys.
Why must multi-assets mode be off?
The system calculates available funds and risk with single-asset USDT margin. Multi-assets mode counts other assets as margin, so the computed available funds would not match the real risk.
Can I bind Binance and OKX at the same time?
Strategy settings run independently on each exchange, but only the one currently bound account places orders at any time.
